As 2016 comes to a close, there will be plenty of work to do for every employer. Be sure to put I-9 forms at the top of your list. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has released a new version of the Form I-9. You can download the form below to begin the process of updating current employee Forms I-9.
Employers can continue to use the current version of the form, which has a revision date of March 8, 2013 until January 21, 2017, but after January 21, all previous versions will be invalid. It’s best to ensure that all new employees are now completing the latest form.
The new Form I-9 will have an expiration date of August 31, 2019. In previous updates, employers were only given 60 days to transfer all forms. The new, extended deadline gives employers over a year to comply.
The updates to the form include “smart” error-checking features, several new structural changes, and more thorough instructions for employers.
